Dan Cavanagh + Dave Hagedorn DUO

Piano and vibraphone make up this group that has been getting rave reviews. Dave Hagedorn is a master vibraphonist who has recorded with George Russell's Living Time Orchestra, is a mainstay on the Twin Cities artistic jazz scene, and plays his butt off. It's a privilege to play together. Look for a CD release in late 2010!

The Creativity Project

Traditionally, the chain of creativity has been rather short - composer writes something that was perhaps inspired by something else, musicians play it, and audience hears it. Most of that is passive. With few exceptions, artists do not create with the express purpose of inspring other artists to create. The Creativity Project aims to change that. Dan is working with his jazz/chamber music group Outburst to perform compositions inspired by other artists who are commissioned expressly to create with the notion that other art will be created as a result. The performing musicians offer creative feedback, are also inspired by the other works of art, and provide the audience with an exceptional experience. Audience members are then invited to continue the chain of creativity. This lengthening and de-linearizing of the chain of creativity increases artistic engagement on all levels, from pre-compositional creation to audience members' active listening and digestion of live performances. Plus great art, poetry, and music all comes forth!

Dan Cavanagh's Jazz Emporium Big Band

Dan's big band's first CD, Pulse, is available on OA2 Records. The group performs all original compositions by Dan and includes an all-star cast of performers from around the country.
