The quartet TRAVERSE represents a musical push across boundaries and outwards into new ways of creating music. Remy Le Boeuf, Dan Cavanagh, and Linda Oh came together in 2008 at the Ravinia Music Festival in Chicago where they built a lasting connection and decided to form TRAVERSE. As individuals they are each highly accomplished players as well as award-winning composers. Their collective vision for TRAVERSE is a synergy of their creative energy and musical abilities, as listeners will see for themselves with the premier tour of TRAVERSE in November 2009.
Growing up Santa Cruz, California, saxophonist Remy Le Boeuf moved to New York with his twin brother, Pascal, in 2004 where he received praise for his modern vocabulary and rule-breaking compositions. Dave Douglas describes them as "sophisticated and innovative.” The New York Times announced the release of their new album this summer saying, “this group has an impressively self-assured new album, “House Without a Door” (Le Boeuf Brothers Music), which reaches for the gleaming cosmopolitanism of our present era.”
All Music Guide calls composer and pianist Dan Cavanagh's debut album "striking" and "auspicious". He is a nationally recognized composer, with commissions from a wide range of groups across North America, including the New York Youth Symphony First Music program. As a pianist, he has frequently performed with drummer Adonis Rose and the Fort Worth Jazz Orchestra. He has also performed with Jeff Coffin (of Bela Fleck), Terrell Stafford, Grammy-winning Blues singer Irma Thomas, and Grammy-winning drummer Joe McCarthy, among many others. He has been a finalist in the ASCAP Young Jazz Composers competition three times, and was awarded Honourable Mention for the 2007 Gil Evans Commission Competition. Currently Cavanagh serves as the Assistant Director of Jazz Studies at the University of Texas at Arlington.
Born in Malaysia, raised in Western Australia and now living in New York City, Linda Oh has been coined "one of the greatest bassists of the new generation" by Nathan Davis. She plays upright and electric bass and has performed with the likes of James Morrison, T.S Monk, Billy Kilson, and Slide Hampton to name a few. Linda has been a recipient of the ASCAP Young Composers Award, a Sisters in Jazz Award and was a James Morrison Scholarship finalist. She is about to release her debut trio album "Entry" with Obed Calvaire and Ambrose Akinmusire.
